About Me

“Painting is for enjoyment. You as a viewer, and myself as a painter.”

About the Artist - Floyd Lawrence     I began my life in Pittsfield Maine, and lived there until I went to Wentworth Institute in Boston to study architecture. After Graduation, I returned to Auburn Maine and started working for an architect. When I was about 26 my wife encouraged me to take some art classes. It has been an on and off endeavor for the last 40 year or so. Some times daily life got so hectic that I wouldn’t paint for a while, but kept going back to it. I found that I did much better if I signed up for classes. This way I would set time aside to paint. Retirement has freed up time to dive back in again.
I work in both oils and watercolors and paint a wide variety of subject matter. I enjoy the process of taking a flat surface and developing it into a picture that is three dimensional. Seeing colors and the effects our environment has on things around us is important. I particularly like doing shadows and fog.
My training began with taking courses at the University of Maine at the Portland campus. This was followed by many adult education classes at Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Maine. I took a seminar at the University of Maine at the Lewiston campus. Most recently I took watercolor classes taught by Patti Kane at the Fort Myers Beach Art Association in Florida.
I have shown my work at the University of Maine Gallery in Lewiston, Saint Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, Harriman Associates in Auburn, 0range Harbor Art Club Exhibits in Fort Myers, FL, Fort Myers Beach Art Association Gallery FL, 2011 Winter Juried Show FMBAA, Tim Horton's Shops, the Maine Federation Of Garden Clubs Convention 2009 in Orono Maine, the Sebasticook Valley FCU in Pittsfield 2009, 2010 & 2011, the Bangor Public Library 2009 & 2010, the Sebasticook Valley Weekly 2009, the Newport Cultural Center 2009 & 2011 and at the Pittsfield Public Library 2010 &2011.
